The Dubai Maritime City Authority, at the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, organized a workshop in cooperation with members of the Leisure Marine Association to discuss ways to support operators and representatives of clubs, marinas and agents of marine services companies, and to discuss strengthening cooperation with maritime agents in order to support the marine leisure industry in Dubai.
Adel Kalantar, Director of the Maritime Business Development Department in the Dubai Maritime City Authority, who attended the workshop representing the authority, said that the workshop was held in implementation of the directives of Sheikh Saeed bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, Executive Director of Dubai Maritime City Authority, aiming to support and develop the leisure maritime sector in Dubai in cooperation with strategic partners.
Kalantar indicated that the workshop reviewed a package of initiatives launched by the authority to support this sector. During the workshop, a project was discussed to organize the work of clubs and marinas, the first phase of which was implemented in February 2022, and a review of the challenges that accompanied the implementation of this project, with confirmation that the implementation of the second phase of the project will be announced soon.
Kalantar pointed out that the authority is currently working on developing frameworks to regulate the activity of visiting foreign yachts coming to Dubai in cooperation with the navigational agents, noting that the authority is also studying the provision of a system of lease contracts similar to the "EJARI" system, in cooperation with the Real Estate Regulatory Agency "RERA", which contributes to the regulation and governance of the mechanism for renting sidewalks in Dubai.
Kalantar affirmed the Dubai Maritime city authority’s growing keenness to learn about all the challenges facing agents in the leisure maritime sector, and to discuss ways to overcome them in cooperation with the relevant authorities and government agencies in a way that contributes to setting and developing a mechanism and a clear work system that works to develop this sector in Dubai, and at the same time it strengthens partnership and cooperation relations with them.
