The Dubai Maritime Authority issues guidelines and requirements to mitigate Noise Pollution

The Dubai Maritime Authority of the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation issued Circular No. (12) for the year 2024 regarding noise pollution and violations of Jet Skis Users. The aim is to ensure compliance with laws and regulations governing the use of jet skis, and to promote awareness of the importance of public safety and the necessity of respecting marine environment users and beaches. This is part of the continuous efforts of the Dubai Maritime Authority to enhance the safety and security of maritime waters, and to reaffirm its commitment to implementing the highest standards of quality and excellence. This is in pursuit of solidifying Dubai's position as a leading global maritime hub by applying a comprehensive and integrated security system to ensure the safety of the Dubai's waters and to attract all maritime users. Sheikh Dr. Saeed bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, the Executive Director of the Dubai Maritime Authority of the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation, emphasized the Authority's commitment to providing a safe marine environment for navigation. This is achieved by expanding operational frameworks, establishing effective policies, and legislations to enforce the highest standards of maritime safety and best maritime initiatives. This is all in line with enhancing Dubai's position as a leading global maritime center, in accordance with local and international laws. The circular urges jet skis users to avoid all sources of noise (such as loud music and engine noise) at the lowest levels possible to enhance public safety and ensure the comfort and safety of other users in the water. It calls on users to avoid causing harm to public safety, the comfort of residents, users of waterways, and beach facilities to ensure everyone's safety and to preserve the marine environment. It also encourages avoiding unnecessary proximity to beaches and coastal residential areas to reduce disturbance, congestion, and to maintain peace and comfort in these areas. Sheikh Saeed stated, “This circular is part of our continuous efforts to maintain public safety and ensure that everyone can enjoy maritime activities safely. It emphasizes our commitment to providing a comfortable marine environment that attracts everyone, in addition to raising awareness of the importance of compliance with rules and regulations by jet skis users to achieve full cooperation between both parties in order to obtain a safe and sustainable marine environment”. The Executive Director of the Dubai Maritime Authority stressed the importance of refraining from engaging in races, dangerous and reckless behaviors, and all other violations to maintain the safety of users and prevent serious accidents. He emphasized the complete avoidance of using jet skis before sunrise or after sunset, and the necessity of ensuring a return before sunset to reduce potential risks associated with limited visibility and to ensure safe navigation in different conditions. Sheikh Saeed urged jet skis users in Dubai to adhere to the circular instructions, understand the importance of complying with safety rules, and demonstrate responsibility while engaging in maritime activities. Compliance with these rules enhances their experience, ensures their safety, and the safety of others, affirming that any violation committed will be met with strict measures by the DMA.
